Hi! I did a test search on your website for benzoic acid, and got the following line:

This compound is a controlled substance
and therefore can not be bought through MolPort!

Could you explain what "controlled substance" means, why these compounds can't be ordered and what kind of compounds belong to this category in MolPort?

Dear Robert,

Wikipedia has gives a good definition of controlled substances.

Molport does not trade controlled substances as they are not rare compounds. Controlled substances are sold by many reagent suppliers but you need a special license to buy them. Benzoic acid can be easily ordered from Alfa Aesar or Sigma-Aldrich, for example.

We have labeled some compounds as controlled substances even if they are not. Benzoic acid is one of them. With time we will find such substances and will remove the label. For us it is important to block controlled substance sales. It is better to block a few legal compounds than not to block some controlled substances.
