Just do not stay at the Vegas Club. Gone way down hill. The Plaza and Binions have closed their rooms down but the casino was open. Any place esle should not be too bad.

The "El Cortez Hotel and Casino - Las Vegas Like It Used To Be" offers Tower Rooms for $49/night and Junior Cabana Suites for $58 on weekends nights.  DonDiego can attest to the decent quality of the Junior Suites - nicely decorated, fairly new, clean, . . . and there's free candy in a big bowl next to the security desk every day, . . . and fruit, if that is one's preference.  Perhaps sooner38 can negotiate a better deal.

The Golden Nugget is still the best, but it is the most expensive.  Check rates, they sometimes have deals.  If not the GN, then I'd recommend Main Street Station.  Good solid choice.

I do agree that the Nugget is the best (and by far) but the rates there will be similar to strip properties.  If what you are looking for are rates similar to what you used to get comped at the El Co or a place you can go that you may have a chance to get comped while you stay and play then I don't think the Nugget is the right place. I personally really like Main Street for sure and that would be my top choice downtown but don't count out El Co.  I am out of the loop a bit but I believe the hotel at the Plaza will be closed to renovations and Binoins hotel is also closed.  So if you can't find what you need at MSS or ElCo then I would look at 4queens.  I have not seen the new rooms at Golden Gate but most who have on here say they are small but nice. 

The last promo I got was from Four Queens.  Also, Sam's Town has a shuttle to and from DTLV, but it doesn't run 24/7.
